A webpage I would recommend

The intention of this blog is to comment on life and other matters in and around Donostia. It came into being almost by accident but now that it is here, like any newborn, it is hungry to be fed. Anyway, the question was asked, "What webpage would you recommend to anyone interested in knowing more about Donostia and the Basque Country in general?" It didn't take me long to think of an answer - Buber's Basque page! Don't worry though - it is in English! And Basque too….

This webpage has been around for a good while now and I can't think of a better site in terms of coverage, balance and interest than this one. The creator of this admirable work, 'Buber', is Blas Pedro Uberuaga and anyone who wants to find out about Basque sports, music, traditions, etc., or the 'Basque problem' , Buber's Basque Page is a great place to get informed.

Try it!

Tony,
It's Jill from the blogging course. Sorry to have left is so late to leaving a comment.
I love the visuals on your blogg it's feels very relaxing to look at.
You have obviously fallen in love with the Basque country. I have spend holiday's in Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia and the Catalan Pyrennes but the political situation has always put me and my husband off going to the Basque country. How does the political atmosphere affect you and your life?

Hello Jill. I hope you found the course useful - I know I did. As for the political situation in the Basque Country, it is difficult to comment in a few words. There are still many unresolved historical issues to overcome, whatever your standpoint. But for the visitor, I would say that the political background is no reason to decide against visiting and that going to New York and London would be much 'riskier' in almost every way!

Hello Tone,

Just to prove I have read your blog!
Great photos, as ever and I'm missing that beautiful bay just looking at them.

BTW, I note you include the label "Gastronomy" - a future topic for an article, methinks.

So, if your chum Jill is still following she'll already know how good Iberian food is and she needs to find out that, though undoubtedly contentious, that the Basques have the edge (oh, and it's safe)!

Hello Mike:

Welcome back to Donostia! Yes, I think the topic of gastronomy would be a very appropriate one to return to just now - there has been a bit of public 'dissent within the ranks' recently as regards the culinary direction taken by some of the top chefs in Spain .. more later!

Dear Tony,

Wow what a wealth of information! I love sites like this one and the famous Craigslist which isn't the same sort of thing as buber's page, but has as much depth t it (this is the Barcelona page, the nearest I could find to you.) I really love the over-crowded, user-generated feel sites like these have to them, even if it does start to get a bit claustrophobic after a while! By the way the Barcelona one isn't nearly as good as some of the international ones (Craig'slist is more established there.)

I agree with Jill that you have a really nice visual touch to your blog. It's daft, but it is important how your blog feels. In a site like buber.net or Craig's list the readers are drawn to the site because they know the sort of content that they'll find there. In our blogs though we'll sometimes find it hard to begin with to get folk reading us. The last thing we want to do is to scare them off with a site that is hard on the eyes!

In our forums you said that you'd be keeping this blog going too, which is great news. I've subscribed to you already, so I'll be in touch with you whenever you post.

So, good luck Tony, keep up the blogging, I'm really looking forward to the direction your blog will take in the future!
